Nokia unveiled two new dual SIM phones last Thursday June 9, 2011. The Nokia X1-01 and the Nokia C2-00 would soon be available in the Philippines.
Both phones feature what Nokia calls the Dual SIM/Dual standby idle state wherein the device is connected via both SIMs and is simultaneously scanning both networks of the connected SIM. This means that both SIM cards can be used for communication with some limitations such as when one SIM receives or makes a call, the other SIMs radio channel is temporarily dropped until the said activity is done. Aside from this, another unique feature of these phones is the ability to store up to five SIM card settings on both devices.
Of the two, the Nokia X1-01 is made for the music lovers with most of its feature geared towards enhanced music playback. The Nokia X1-01 boasts an extra loud speaker which they claim to be the loudest and clearest they ever produced and a set of dedicated keys on the side for music. The device can also do up to 36 hours music playback. The phone supports up to 16 GB of expandable memory and a built in flashlight as well.
The Nokia C2-00, which was announced almost a year ago, is the more feature packed of the two with the so called Easy swap feature wherein you can hot swap the SIM cards without removing the back cover or even turning the phone off. Once a new SIM is inserted inside the SIM door on the side of the device, the phone will automatically utilize its network. Unlike the X1-01, the C2-00 has a VGA camera; GPRS support (no 3g) and up to 32 GB of supported expandable memory.
Both devices are housed by a durable plastic casing which makes them lightweight but somehow sturdy; typical of Nokia feature phone hardware. Of the two, I find it easier to use the C2-00 because of its better looking interface and easier to press number pad but the X1-01 has the edge when it comes to a modern look.
Both phones are to be released within the month with the Nokia X1-01 having an SRP of Php 1,990 while the Nokia C2-00 will have an SRP of Php 2,990.
