Regulators Agree on Bank Capital Levels: "
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Global banking regulators said Saturday they will require large banks that are deemed too big to fail to hold an additional 1% to 2.5% of capital on their balance sheets.
In a statement, the group of central bank chiefs that oversees the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, said the exact amount of additional capital banks will have to hold will depend upon their levels of 'systemic importance.'
The higher capital requirements will be introduced between January 2016 and year-end 2018 and will become fully effective on Jan. 1, 2019, the group said.
