Filippo Ioco’s philosophy is simple, to make beautiful work. Have you ever imagined becoming that color or mentally diving into it? How does it feel? Color is such a basic and constant element in our world that we sometimes forget its depth, as if we lived in Black and White. Stop for a moment and look around you. Look at the myriad of colors that surround you. Rarely does one stop to examine one particular color or colors in all their infinite qualities, and experience color as an entity. If you gave your imagination complete freedom to explore color, you could lose yourself in all of its possibilities. The artist wants the viewer to imagine themselves inside the painting.
Los Angeles based Italian born Filippo Ioco, starts with pigments and creates the color as he works with the paint applying it with brush, his hands and rags. Thinning the paint, developing it into a texture while displacing it across the canvas in acts of random creation. Working the colors into hues and into each other. His work travels the range from calming tonal gradations of browns and earth tones to joyous whimsy with circles and bright yellows mixed with vivid pinks and greens to passionate explosions of reds and several shades in between.
No worries about hanging the canvases right side up or upside down. The viewer may choose.
