Helmut Lang Returns to the Runway With a Richard Serra–Inspired Show

Helmut Lang Returns to the Runway With a Richard Serra–Inspired Show:
Looks from Helmut Lang's spring 2012 collection.

After a six-year break from the runway, Helmut Lang returned to New York Fashion Week today with a show set in a gritty warehouse space on the West Side Highway. Models teetered down the catwalk clad in Nicole and Michael Colovos's sexy yet minimalist looks, paired with black-and-white Alejandro Ingelmo wedges. Nicole described their inspiration as mostly sculptural: "We looked at a Richard Serra exhibit as a starting point," she said. The palette was stark — loads of black, white, and gray with bits of yellow and a graphic pattern or two; the silhouettes ranged from body-conscious dresses to loose silk Bermuda shorts paired with midriff-baring bra tops.
