American Airlines Plans Capacity Cuts:

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- American Airlines said adjustments to its late fall and winter schedule will result in a 3% decline to its mainline capacity in the fourth quarter.

The airline, in a statement, said it also plans to retire up to 11 Boeing 757 aircraft in 2012.

American said its advance bookings were "generally in line with last year," but it is taking the steps "in light of the uncertain economic environment, ongoing high fuel costs and to ensure" it runs a reliable schedule.
