Police investigation over four bodies found in Leeds house

Police investigation over four bodies found in Leeds house:

Street near centre of Pudsey sealed off after two adults and two children were found dead in property on Sunday afternoon

Police are trying to determine what killed four people found dead on Sunday in a detached house in a quiet cul-de-sac.

Officers were called to Sheridan Way near the centre of Pudsey in Leeds, late on Sunday afternoon. The area was sealed off while the property was checked for harmful chemicals or gases.

Police said the bodies are those of two adults and two children. A spokesman said: "Inquiries at the property will take a considerable length of time because of the possibility of hazardous chemicals or substances being present. However, there is not thought to be any risk to members of the public from this incident."

On Monday morning a police car was parked outside the modern house, which has a garage on the ground floor. The only other sign of any incident was a smashed living room window. Family pictures could be seen inside the house and two cars remained on the drive.

Officers later sealed off the whole street as more police vehicles arrived. Neighbours spoke of their shock, although none said they knew the family who lived in the house. One added that the family had lived there for only a few months.

Emergency services were called to the property at 5.30pm on Sunday and discovered the bodies. Ambulance crews sent a hazardous area response team and fire crews also attended the incident.

A West Yorkshire police spokeswoman said: "At around 5.30pm, police were called to a property in the Pudsey area of Leeds following the discovery of four bodies. Inquiries are at an early stage and police have sealed off the area while the property is checked for any harmful chemicals or gases."
