High-Stakes, High-Tech Legal Battle Looming: Apple and Others Hit With Lawsuit Over Technology in iPhone, BlackBerry: Apple Computers and other tech firms have been hit with a lawsuit over technology used in Apple iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches, HTC smartphones and Research in Motion BlackBerrys, reports TheWrap.com.The lawsuit was filed this week by Kodak, which says the devices use patented technology from 2007 in the cameras found in the units. Other smartphones and mobile devices from makers LG, Motorola, Samsung and Nokia use the Kodak camera technology and pay royalties to Kodak, the story reports.Kodak contends that the technology that gives users the ability to shoot pictures and send them directly from the device has been used illegally by Apple, HTC and RIM. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in New York on Tuesday. Kodak is seeking a trial in an effort to get compensation and to demand that the companies stop infringing on the patents. Apple has not commented on the suit.Laura G. Quatela, Kodak's president and COO, said in a statement: "Our primary interest is not to disrupt the availability of any product but to obtain fair compensation for the unauthorized use of our technology. The failure of companies to appropriately compensate Kodak for the unauthorized use of our patented technology impedes our ability to continue to innovate and introduce new patents."Kodak recently revealed that it is on the brink of bankruptcy, as we reported last week.
