Free Association With: Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis of Suno:

It’s time for another installment of Fashion Words With Friends, and Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis, designers of Suno, are next up. For Fall 2012, the designers were preoccupied with the exploration of childhood whimsy. “We started with that idea of how children see the world in such a beautiful way, and then we wanted to find a way to contain that, which came with this militaristic, utilitarian element,” Beatty said. The collection began with striped trousers paired with strong-shouldered outerwear, and transitioned to a blend of Suno’s trademark prints. Florals, geometric patterns, and pastoral scenes all made appearances. Read on to find out what Osterweis thinks of when he hears the word festive, and how the design duo differs on the word platforms.

Luxury: Osterweis: “Time.”

Artful: Beatty: “Openness.”

New York City: Beatty: “Rush.”

Price Point: Beatty: “Difficult.”

Festive: Osterweis: “Tequila!”

Platforms: Osterweis: “Political.” Beatty: “Difficult to walk in!”

Modern: Beatty: “Art.”

Velvet: Beatty: “Edit it out!”
