Playing it Safe: Safe might be a little tough to remember in a few months. It is a perfectly competent action movie, one that even features a couple of inventive sequences. But it is a film that leans too hard on the physical talents of its star, and it comes off feeling a bit generic because of it. A deep, tragic premise is mostly squandered as the film decides to ease back on the pathos and simply have Statham beat people up. And that's still pretty enjoyable, but it's hard to shake the feeling that there could have been something more.
