MANILA, Philippines - A red alert status was raised Sunday over the La Mesa dam as its water level reached 79.54 meters, dam officials said.
The water level is .61 meters below the spilling level of 80.15 meters, and authorities advised residents near the dam to prepare for evacuation.
The rise in the water level was blamed on continuous rains brought about by Tropical Storm “Gener,” which has intensified slightly as it continues to move closer to extreme Northern Luzon.
