Women's marathon: 11am at The Mall

Another British athlete who requires a spectacular return to form to challenge for a medal is Paula Radcliffe. Let's hope for tears of joy.

Women's boxing: 1:30pm at ExCeL Arena

The sight of women in the ring will be a first for the Games.

Sailing: 2pm

All the focus will be on Britain's Ben Ainslie's quest for a record-equalling fourth gold in the Finn.

Basketball: 4.45pm at the Basketball Arena

China with 7ft 3in Zhang Zhaoxu, quarter-finalists in 2008, take on the men's champions, USA.

Women's 400m final: 9.10pm at the Olympic Stadium

Christine Ohuruogu will need an increase in speed and stamina to find a performance to beat Sanya Richards-Ross, the world No1.

Men's 100m final: 9.50pm at the Olympic Stadium

This event, more than any other, promises to inject an electric current into the Games and send a wave of excitement cascading over the capital.

If Usain Bolt continued running out of the stadium at his top pace of 27mph, he could be in Brighton (54 miles away) in two hours.
