Acer Aspire V5, 5-inch ultrathin gaming notebook now in AMD flavor:
When you think of gaming notebooks, you’ll often think of bulky 15-inchers that’s a pain to lug around with a body so warm you can use it to treat chronic back pains.

Yesterday, Acer launched their AMD-powered Aspire V5 ultrathin gaming notebook which you might want to add to your Christmas shopping list. This notebook is outfitted with a quad-core AMD A8 processor with 4GB DDR3 RAM and runs on Windows 8 despite not having a touch-screen display.
The 15.6-inch display on the Aspire V5 tops at 1366 x 768 resolution which makes it subpar for its screen size. It does have Acer’s CineCrystal technology to give it a high brightness.

You will also appreciate its 23mm-thin profile and 2.3kg weight making it somewhat portable for a 15-incher. What’s hard to imagine is that despite its thin profile, this laptop is equipped with a 750GB HDD and an optical disc drive. It didn’t even heat up after running Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm straight for about 3 hours.

What makes this a decent gaming notebook is the ability of its integrated graphics, AMD Radeon HD 7600G, and its discrete graphics, 7650M with 1GB VRAM, to work together for added performance. Usually, only the integrated or the discrete graphics does the work at any given time. Starcraft II: HoS was able to run at ultra-high settings with no stuttering.

They backlit keyboard has a full-sized number pad which gamers will find useful and it also has a generous-sized touchpad which is 10% bigger than usual 15-inchers out there.
The Acer Aspire V5 is also equipped with AMD’s new HD Media Accelerator for seamless seamless streaming of high-resolution video and hastens file conversion. They also demoed the Steady Video Technology which somehow straightens shaky playback of homemade video.

This notebook also supports BIOS optimized solution, which makes the system easier to revive from sleep mode—in less than 2 seconds—and boot in about 14 seconds only.
The Acer Aspire V5 is already available with an SRP of Php30,900.
